CFO / Finance Director – Construction & Building Services

About the role

We are seeking a commercially sharp CFO or Finance Director with construction, engineering or building services experience to lead the finance function of a private‑equity backed SME. The role is hands‑on, board‑level and focused on rebuilding financial infrastructure, strengthening controls and supporting rapid growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the entire finance function and act as strategic partner to the Managing Director, senior leadership team and private‑equity owners.
• Develop and implement robust financial controls, reporting frameworks and percentage‑of‑completion accounting processes.
• Manage cash flow, working capital and budgeting to support turnaround and growth initiatives.
• Drive business transformation, operational performance improvement and financial excellence.
• Provide board‑level financial insight while remaining involved in day‑to‑day financial details.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Finance Director, CFO or number‑one finance leader in a turnaround, private‑equity backed or high‑change SME.
• ACA or ACCA qualification.
• Strong background in construction, engineering or building services accounting, including percentage‑of‑completion methodology.
• Demonstrated ability to lead finance teams and deliver transformation.
