Charge Nurse – Permanent, 36 hrs/week

About the role

The Charge Nurse position at Hay Lodge Community Hospital provides leadership on Ward 1, a 24‑hour inpatient unit caring primarily for older adults. This permanent Band 6 role involves 36 hours per week and offers the chance to develop clinical and managerial expertise within a supportive, nurse‑led environment.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise registered and unregistered staff, as well as student nurses, ensuring safe and effective patient care.
• Coordinate complex discharges in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members, patients, and families.
• Support the Senior Charge Nurse in the day‑to‑day operation of the ward, including staffing and resource allocation.
• Make confident clinical decisions without direct supervision and act as a role model for high‑quality, person‑centred care.

Required profile

• Full registration with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
• Ability to work flexibly across day or night shifts to meet 24/7 service demands.
• Motivated, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement.
• Willingness to undergo updated criminal records checks and, if required, join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
