About the role
We are looking for a motivated and adaptable Charge Nurse to join Ward 7 at Borders General Hospital. The ward provides acute surgical care across General Surgery, Gynaecology and Urology and operates 24 hours a day.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise registered and unregistered staff, as well as student nurses, ensuring safe and effective care delivery.
- Assess patient needs and coordinate high‑quality, person‑centred care plans.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to organise complex discharges.
- Make confident clinical decisions without direct supervision.
- Work flexible day and night shifts to support the 24/7 service.
Required profile
- Full UK NMC registration.
- Registered Nurse with experience in acute surgical settings.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team.
- Flexibility to cover both day and night shifts.

What we offer
- Permanent Band 6 position within NHS Scotland.
- 36‑hour full‑time week (reduced from 37 hours from April 2026) with a corresponding hourly rate increase.
