Chef Manager – School Catering (Full‑time)

About the role

As the Chef Manager at Newman Catholic College you will lead the school kitchen team to deliver fresh, nutritious meals for students and staff each day. The role is full‑time, term‑time only, and places safeguarding and food quality at its core.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage day‑to‑day kitchen operations.
• Prepare and serve fresh, balanced meals in line with school standards.
• Oversee stock control, ordering and budget management.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and health & safety regulations.
• Monitor food quality, presentation and portion control.
• Manage allergen awareness and cater for special dietary requirements.
• Build positive relationships with staff, pupils and the wider school community.
• Maintain accurate records such as HACCP logs, temperature checks and audits.
• Inspire and develop the kitchen team.

Required profile

• Commitment to safeguarding children and young people.
• Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate (required).
• NVQ Level 2/3 in catering (highly desirable).
• Passion for delivering fresh, nutritious meals.
• Proven leadership experience in a catering environment.
• Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
• Confidence in managing budgets, stock and kitchen operations.
• Knowledge of food safety, allergens and school food standards.

Required skills

• Food Hygiene Level 2 certification.
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 (catering).
• Budget management.
• Stock control.
• HACCP record‑keeping.
