Chef Manager – School Kitchen (Term Time)

About the role

Join HCL as a Chef Manager at Edmonton County School Cambridge Campus, overseeing a vibrant school kitchen that serves fresh, nutritious meals to students and staff. This full‑time, term‑time position offers a supportive environment where safeguarding and high‑quality food are top priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage day‑to‑day kitchen operations, ensuring smooth service.
• Prepare, cook and deliver fresh, balanced meals in line with school standards.
• Control stock, place orders and manage the kitchen budget.
• Maintain compliance with food safety, hygiene and health & safety regulations, including HACCP and temperature checks.
• Monitor food quality, presentation and portion control.
• Manage allergen information and cater for special dietary requirements.
• Build positive relationships with staff, pupils and the wider school community.
• Maintain accurate records and complete required audits.

Required profile

• Strong commitment to safeguarding children and young people.
• Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate (mandatory).
• NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in catering or hospitality (highly desirable).
• Proven leadership experience in a kitchen environment.
• Excellent organisational, planning and time‑management skills.
• Ability to work flexibly in a fast‑paced, term‑time setting.

Required skills

• Food Hygiene Level 2 certification.
• NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.
• Knowledge of HACCP procedures.
• Allergen management and special dietary provision.
