Child Law Solicitor

About the role

Oculus Legal Group is seeking a dedicated Child Law Solicitor to join its growing Family team in the South West. The role offers hybrid working, a supportive environment and the chance to make a real difference for children and families.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a full caseload of public child law matters from instruction to conclusion.
• Represent parents, guardians and children in care proceedings, supervision orders, emergency protection orders and adoption cases.
• Provide empathetic advice to vulnerable clients throughout the legal process.
• Advocate in the Family Court and liaise with counsel when required.
• Prepare legal documentation, witness statements and court bundles.
• Collaborate with local authorities, social services and other professionals involved in child protection.
• Maintain accurate files, record time and handle billing in line with regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with a current practising certificate.
• Experience in public family law, care proceedings or child protection matters.
• Open to candidates from newly qualified to experienced practitioners.
• Legally‑aided experience is advantageous; Children Panel Accreditation desirable.
• Confident advocate with excellent client‑care and communication skills.
• Organised, proactive and able to manage a busy caseload effectively.
