Childcare & Families Solicitor (Temporary, Remote possible)

About the role

This interim position is for an experienced solicitor to manage a high‑volume childcare caseload within a large local authority. The role starts immediately on a three‑month contract and may be extended, offering the chance to support vulnerable children and families while working within a supportive legal team.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a full childcare caseload independently, advising social care teams and senior stakeholders.
• Conduct advocacy and attend hearings where required.
• Draft legal documents, applications and court pleadings.
• Provide pragmatic legal advice on public‑law children’s work and care proceedings.
• Carry out legal research and advise on risk and case strategy.
• Liaise with counsel, courts and external parties as needed.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor, barrister or CILEX professional with a current practising certificate.
• Significant experience handling local‑authority childcare matters.
• Proven ability to manage a varied childcare caseload with minimal supervision.
• Strong knowledge of public‑law children’s work and care proceedings.
• Excellent advocacy skills and willingness to attend hearings.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet competing deadlines.
