Children Law Solicitor Director

About the role

The Children Law Solicitor Director will lead our specialist Child Care department, providing strategic direction and high‑level legal advice to families, guardians and adopters. Based in our flagship London office, you will work within a paper‑less, hybrid‑working environment that serves corporate and private clients across more than 25 areas of law.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and develop the Child Care practice, ensuring compliance with the Solicitor’s Regulation Authority and relevant professional bodies.
• Represent children, parents and birth parents in adoption, surrogacy, co‑parenting, and international child abduction matters.
• Advise same‑sex couples on child‑care arrangements following divorce, separation or civil partnership dissolution.
• Maintain relationships with the Law Society Children and Family Panel, Association for Lawyers for Children and Resolution.
• Contribute to business development, thought leadership and the firm’s reputation in The Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with extensive experience in child‑care and family law.
• Demonstrated leadership ability, having managed senior legal teams or practice groups.
• Member of the Law Society Children and Family Panel or equivalent professional associations.
• Strong understanding of UK adoption, surrogacy, and international child abduction legislation.

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of child‑care law, adoption procedures and family dispute resolution.
• Ability to interpret and apply complex statutory frameworks.
• Excellent advocacy and negotiation skills in high‑stakes cases.
