Children's Advanced Practitioner – Duty Service

About the role
The Children’s Advanced Practitioner will join Wigan Council’s Duty Service, providing expert mentorship, coaching and risk‑based decision‑making to the team. This senior position ensures child‑centred practice, safeguarding standards and continuous learning across the service.
Key responsibilities
- Mentor and coach less‑experienced social workers, supporting their development through co‑working and reflective supervision.
- Assess and manage risk, conduct home visits, and deliver interventions for children and families.
- Lead the implementation of the Family Safeguarding model and ensure statutory compliance.
- Drive quality assurance through case audits, evidence‑based practice and continuous improvement.
- Maintain a small, complex caseload while supporting team members.
- Promote innovative service delivery and value‑for‑money outcomes.
Required profile
- Extensive experience in children’s social work and advanced practice.
- Strong leadership, analytical and decision‑making abilities.
- Ability to embed safeguarding models and quality frameworks.
- Commitment to fostering a learning culture and reflective practice.
