Children's Social Work Manager – Assessment & Support

About the role

The Children's Social Work Manager will lead a team within the Assessment & Support service for the south locality of Herefordshire Council. You will oversee a rotating, fast‑paced assessment team that delivers short‑term quality assessments of need for children and families, ensuring appropriate service provision.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership and direction to a team of social workers, a Managing Practitioner and a Managing Practitioner.
• Allocate and prioritise workloads to keep the child's welfare paramount.
• Develop and implement team plans to meet performance targets and service objectives.
• Ensure robust, timely assessments and accurate reporting.
• Support professional development and maintain high standards of practice.

Required profile

• Fully qualified social worker (DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent).
• Minimum three years’ experience in statutory social care.
• Proven ability in assessment, report writing and managing complex cases.
• Commitment to improving outcomes for children and families.
