Claims Handler - Commercial & Schemes

About the role

Howden, a global insurance group, is recruiting a Claims Handler for its Commercial & Schemes team in either Cardiff or Swansea. You will deliver detailed and efficient claims service to clients, managing a portfolio of commercial motor claims from start to finish with autonomy.

Key responsibilities

• Handle commercial motor claims end to end, evaluating and processing them within specified timelines and guidelines.
• Work closely with internal teams and external vendors to resolve claims quickly.
• Analyse claims data, identify trends and suggest ways to reduce risk and lower claim frequency.
• Build good relationships with clients, brokers, insurers and industry partners.
• Stay up to date with industry trends, regulatory changes and emerging technologies.
• Present reports and presentations on key performance indicators.
• Visit clients on site after a loss, investigate the circumstances and build strong claims.
• Negotiate with insurers to secure the best settlement terms under the policy.

Required profile

• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent); A-level is desirable.
• Brokerage experience is a must.
• CII and CILA certifications are an asset.
• Experience caring for distressed clients is highly valued.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of commercial motor insurance policies, coverage types and claims procedures.
• Understanding of general and legal principles of insurance and of relevant regulatory and legal frameworks.
• Analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
