Class 1 Container Driver (HGV) – Portsmouth

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Class 1 Container Driver to join our team on a temporary basis, covering day, night and weekend shifts in the Portsmouth and Chichester area. You will operate articulated HGVs with automatic gearboxes, transporting containers for a range of port and logistics customers.

Key responsibilities

• Operate HGV Class 1 (C&E) vehicles safely and efficiently for container pick‑ups and deliveries.
• Log collections, drops and status updates in real time using a smartphone or tablet.
• Follow site‑specific procedures, especially within port environments, and comply with Working Time Directive regulations.
• Conduct daily vehicle checks, report defects and maintain required documentation.
• Provide professional service to clients and customers, adhering to health and safety policies.

Required profile

• Valid HGV Class 1 (C&E) licence held for at least one year.
• DP World Card and Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC).
• Valid Digital Tachograph card.
• Minimum 1 year experience driving HGVs with containers.
• Good spoken and written English and a solid knowledge of the UK motorway network.

Required skills

• Operation of electronic devices such as EPODs, smartphones and instruction screens.
• Understanding of Working Time Directive regulations.
