Clinical Development Fellow – General Medicine & Surgery

About the role
The Clinical Development Fellow posts at Lorn & Islands Hospital provide a unique opportunity to gain broad experience in both medicine and surgery within a rural general hospital setting. Fellows will work across inpatient wards, the emergency department and operate alongside senior consultants.
Key responsibilities
- Manage acute medical and surgical patients on the wards and in the emergency department.
- Participate in emergency and acute presentations under senior supervision.
- Perform procedural tasks such as suturing, line insertion and basic surgical techniques.
- Engage in teaching activities for Dundee University medical students.
- Develop and deliver quality‑improvement projects, audit work or research initiatives.
- Spend allocated development time in theatre, anaesthetics, radiology or outpatient clinics as appropriate.
Required profile
- Full GMC registration with a current licence to practise by the start date.
- Completion of UK Foundation Year 2 training by 4 August 2026.
- Commitment to a 6‑ or 12‑month fixed‑term contract (40 hours/week).
- Interest in rural medicine and progression to CT1/IMT1 training or MRCP/MRCS preparation.
Required skills
- Procedural skills (e.g., suturing, vascular access, basic surgical techniques).
- Emergency department management.
- General medical assessment and diagnosis.
- General surgical assessment and postoperative care.

- Salary range £47,438 – £62,758 per annum pro‑rata.
- 40 % out‑of‑hours supplement.
