Clinical Forensic Nurse

About the role

The Clinical Forensic Nurse will join NHS Scotland’s forensic health service, providing essential medical assessments for individuals in police custody across the South East of Scotland. Working closely with Police Scotland, the role ensures detainees receive timely and appropriate medical care while supporting legal and safety decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct initial health assessments of detainees to identify urgent medical needs.
• Determine fitness for detention, interview, custody, release, and court appearances.
• Provide medical opinions on fitness for custody and release, liaising with forensic medical examiners when required.
• Travel throughout the South East Scotland region according to service demands.
• Maintain accurate records and adhere to NHS Scotland policies and legal requirements.

Required profile

• Registered nurse with experience in forensic, emergency, or acute care settings.
• Current PVG Scheme membership (adult and/or child as appropriate) or willingness to obtain it before starting.
• Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
• Ability to travel across the region and work flexibly with police teams.
