Clinical Pharmacist – Band 6

About the role

The NHS Lothian Primary Care Pharmacy and Medicines Service is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist at Band 6 to join its expanding team in Edinburgh. You will work within GP practices, delivering holistic, patient‑centred pharmaceutical care and supporting safe, effective prescribing across the Health and Social Care Partnership.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical pharmacy services to GP practices, ensuring safe and evidence‑based prescribing.
• Collaborate with GPs, community pharmacists, care home staff and other multidisciplinary team members.
• Develop and apply high‑quality, cost‑effective medication management strategies.
• Participate in joint HSCP projects and initiatives aligned with local and national priorities.
• Support the continuous improvement of pharmacy services through audit and feedback.

Required profile

• Registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
• Experience in primary care, community pharmacy or a similar clinical setting.
• Motivated, enthusiastic and committed to professional development.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Strong clinical pharmacy knowledge and prescribing expertise.
• Understanding of medication safety and NHS prescribing guidelines.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
