CNC Shift Lead – Machine Shop Shift Supervisor

About the role

A leading precision manufacturing business in Bristol is seeking an experienced CNC Shift Lead to supervise the machine shop on a rotating three‑shift schedule. The role ensures safe, efficient and high‑quality CNC machining while meeting production targets and customer requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental policies, deliver toolbox talks and conduct risk assessments.
• Lead the shift team to achieve daily production targets, run start‑of‑shift meetings and support Team Leaders.
• Manage labour allocation, timesheets, holidays and performance reviews.
• Oversee machine shop operations, troubleshoot production issues and coordinate re‑work.
• Conduct daily Gemba walks, monitor Kanban stock levels and raise purchase requisitions for tools and consumables.
• Support recruitment, training needs and workforce development through skills matrices.
• Participate in weekly performance reviews with the Manufacturing Manager and support maintenance activities.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising a CNC machine shop on a shift basis.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental compliance in a manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams, allocate labour and drive continuous improvement.
• Experience in production planning, troubleshooting and managing re‑work.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain a visible leadership presence on the shop floor.
