CNC Turning Setter Operator – Precision Engineering

About the role

We are recruiting a skilled CNC Turning Setter Operator to join a well‑established, growing manufacturing business in Chelmsford. This role offers the chance to work in a precision‑engineering environment, producing high‑quality components to exact specifications. Candidates from across the UK are welcome, with relocation considered for the right individual.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, program and operate CNC turning machines, including Nakamura and Citizen sliding‑head lathes.
• Manufacture components according to production plans and customer deadlines.
• Ensure all parts meet engineering drawings and tight tolerances.
• Adjust tooling, offsets and edit programs to optimise performance.
• Conduct first‑off and in‑process inspections using precision measuring tools.
• Complete route cards and maintain accurate quality documentation.
• Collaborate with the team to maintain efficient production flow.
• Maintain machine upkeep and a clean, safe working environment.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a CNC Turning Setter/Operator.
• Experience with sliding‑head lathes (Citizen, Nakamura preferred).
• Ability to read and interpret technical/engineering drawings.
• Strong inspection skills using micrometers, verniers and calipers.
• High attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality.
• Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
