Commercial Director – Materials & Metals

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Director to lead the commercial function of a leading high‑performance materials manufacturer. Based in Chester, you will report directly to the Managing Director and be responsible for driving growth across global markets.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the commercial strategy, covering procurement, sales and commercial operations.
• Lead, mentor and develop a high‑performing team of 3‑5 professionals.
• Establish commercial KPIs and produce board‑level performance reports.
• Develop sourcing strategies for critical raw materials and negotiate long‑term supply agreements.
• Monitor commodity markets, pricing trends and geopolitical risks to inform purchasing decisions.
• Collaborate with technical, quality, production and finance teams to qualify new material sources.
• Drive sales growth, expand into UK, European and international markets, and manage key customer relationships.
• Produce accurate sales forecasts aligned with production capacity.

Required profile

• Proven senior commercial leadership experience, preferably within materials or advanced engineering sectors.
• Strong track record of strategic planning, team development and board‑level reporting.
• Excellent negotiation skills and ability to manage global supplier relationships.
• Commercial acumen to translate market insights into profitable growth.
