Commercial Gas Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Gas Engineer to support our commercial gas team delivering high‑quality repairs, servicing and compliance work for Harlow City Council plant rooms. The role focuses on installing, maintaining and inspecting commercial gas appliances and heating systems while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Install, service, maintain and repair commercial gas appliances and heating systems in plant‑room environments.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance on boilers, burners, pumps, pressurisation units and related equipment.
• Diagnose and rectify faults on commercial gas, heating and hot‑water systems.
• Perform safety inspections, combustion analysis, gas‑tightness testing and system commissioning.
• Maintain associated mechanical plant including valves, pipework, expansion vessels and controls.
• Monitor plant‑room performance, identify efficiency improvements and support system upgrades.
• Prepare accurate service reports, maintenance records and certifications.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns, providing rapid fault‑finding to minimise downtime.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
• Maintain stock levels of parts, keep company vehicles organised and compliant.
• Provide technical advice for plant‑room improvements and lifecycle replacement projects.

Required profile

• Proven experience working on commercial gas and heating systems in plant‑room settings.
• Strong commitment to health & safety and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to work independently and respond to emergency breakdowns.
• Good record‑keeping and reporting skills.
