Commercial Manager – Civil Engineering

About the role

We are partnering with a fast‑growing civil engineering firm in Rochdale to recruit an experienced Commercial Manager. You will own the commercial function across a portfolio of groundworks projects, guiding each from tender through to final account while supporting the company’s expansion.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full commercial lifecycle for projects valued between £200k and £1 million, from award to final account.
• Prepare and process interim valuations, payment applications, variations and final accounts.
• Produce monthly Cost Value Reconciliations and commercial performance reports.
• Lead estimating and quantity surveying activities, ensuring accurate pricing and margin control.
• Review tender opportunities, develop pricing strategies and oversee bid preparation.
• Procure subcontractors, negotiate contracts and maintain supply‑chain relationships.
• Collaborate with operational teams and senior directors on key commercial decisions.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Commercial Manager, Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or groundworks.
• Track record of handling multiple projects simultaneously and delivering profitable outcomes.
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to work autonomously and influence senior leadership.
• Willingness to travel to site locations as required.
