Communal Services Cleaner

About the role

We are seeking a reliable Communal Services Cleaner to maintain the shared spaces of a social housing portfolio in Eastleigh. You will work on a temporary basis for 12 weeks with the prospect of a permanent position, ensuring all communal areas are clean, safe, and welcoming for residents.

Key responsibilities

• Clean communal areas, entrances, stairwells, windows, corridors, and bin stores according to the cleaning specification.
• Perform sweeping, vacuuming, washing of floors, walls, ceilings, doors, and other fixtures.
• Clean internal windows using ladders where required, pick up litter, remove graffiti, and conduct carpet cleaning.
• Erect signs and notice boards as needed.
• Carry out fire risk assessments, test alarms and emergency lighting, and report any defects.
• Organise workload for maximum efficiency and ensure all cleaning materials are available before starting work.
• Maintain accurate records of material usage, fuel, time spent, and complete required paperwork.
• Keep all plant, equipment, vehicles, tools, and stores safe, secure, and serviceable.

Required profile

• Demonstrable experience in a similar cleaning role within a housing organisation.
• Good knowledge of practical and technical issues related to communal cleaning.
• Understanding of chemicals and mechanical devices used in cleaning operations.
• Current full UK driving licence.
• Effective communication skills and a courteous, customer‑focused attitude.
• Ability to act in line with company values and behaviours.

Required skills

• Use of cleaning chemicals safely and effectively.
• Operation of mechanical cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers and vacuum cleaners.
• Basic ladder safety and manual handling techniques.
• Accurate record‑keeping and paperwork completion.
