Communication Support Worker – BSL Interpreter for Deaf Learners

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Communication Support Worker to provide high‑quality support to Deaf and hard‑of‑hearing learners. The role requires confident use of British Sign Language (BSL) and a commitment to inclusive education, working closely with teaching staff to ensure full curriculum access.

Key responsibilities

• Provide real‑time interpretation between spoken English and BSL (or the learner’s preferred communication method).
• Collaborate with tutors to implement inclusive teaching strategies.
• Maintain accurate records, logs and databases related to support activities.
• Assist learners in understanding verbal instructions, written materials and classroom tasks.
• Promote a positive and accessible learning environment for all students.

Required profile

• Level 3 BSL qualification (essential).
• Experience supporting Deaf or hard‑of‑hearing learners.
• Ability to adapt and modify learning materials to meet communication needs.
• Capability to raise Deaf awareness among staff and peers.
• Strong communication and organisational abilities.
