Communication Support Worker

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Communication Support Worker to provide high‑quality support to Deaf and hard‑of‑hearing learners in a further education setting. The role involves interpreting spoken English into British Sign Language (BSL) and ensuring learners have full access to the curriculum. You will work closely with teaching staff to create an inclusive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide real‑time interpretation between spoken English and BSL (or the learner’s preferred communication method).
• Collaborate with tutors to support inclusive teaching strategies and adapt learning materials.
• Maintain accurate records, logs and databases of support activities.
• Assist learners with understanding verbal instructions, written materials and classroom tasks.
• Promote a positive and accessible learning experience for all students.

Required profile

• Level 3 BSL qualification (essential).
• Proven experience supporting Deaf or hard‑of‑hearing learners.
• Ability to adapt and modify learning materials to meet communication needs.
• Capability to raise Deaf awareness among staff and peers.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
