Communications Manager – Public Sector (3‑month contract)

About the role

Our client, a large local government organisation, is seeking an experienced Communications Manager to lead internal and external communication initiatives. This is a three‑month contract with the possibility of extension for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver communication campaigns in line with the Council’s strategy.
• Lead the production of internal and external publications, including copywriting and sourcing photography.
• Apply change‑communication best practice to support service and organisational change.
• Conduct research and evaluation to measure the impact of communication activities.
• Build and maintain relationships with media, suppliers, national organisations and other key stakeholders.
• Generate commercial support for marketing initiatives through advertising sales and sponsorship.
• Mentor less‑experienced team members and share knowledge.
• Provide regular updates to senior leaders via reports and face‑to‑face briefings.
• Manage media requests through the weekly communications rota and identify opportunities to piggy‑back on media coverage.

Required profile

• Proven experience working within a public‑sector environment.
• Strong track record of delivering successful communication campaigns.
• Ability to work with senior stakeholders and influence decision‑making.
• Excellent research, evaluation and reporting skills.
• Commitment to the Council’s values and delivering value for money.
