Community Staff Nurse – District Nursing

About the role

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the District Nursing Service as a Band 5 Community Staff Nurse. You will deliver person‑centred care in patients' homes and community settings, working autonomously while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan and implement care programmes in partnership with patients, families and carers.
• Temporarily manage caseloads during colleague absences, seeking senior support when required.
• Use clinical and environmental risk assessment tools to identify risks and apply appropriate interventions.
• Report and review incidents to prevent recurrence.
• Support patients, families and carers to achieve optimal health and independence.
• Prioritise workload, delegate tasks appropriately and contribute to a 24‑hour nursing service.
• Provide care within treatment rooms or health centre settings as needed.
• Apply innovative problem‑solving when barriers arise in patients’ homes.
• Participate in clinical audit, research and evidence‑based practice aligned with national standards.
• Adhere to local, regional and national policies, including the NMC Code.
• Provide clinical leadership and act as a role model for junior staff.
• Respond to emergencies using basic life support skills.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a first‑level adult nursing degree.
• Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
• Experience in community or district nursing.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) proficiency.
• Use of clinical risk assessment tools.
