Complex Needs Teacher – Special Educational Needs

About the role
Outcomes First Group is seeking a passionate Complex Needs Teacher to join Underley Garden School in Kirkby Lonsdale. You will work with pupils who have complex Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, delivering personalised and engaging learning experiences.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver creative, differentiated lessons that inspire every learner to reach their potential.
- Create a calm, inclusive classroom environment where pupils feel safe and valued.
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet a wide range of communication, learning and emotional needs.
- Assess, monitor and celebrate pupil progress using Evidence for Learning and other tools.
- Act as Form Tutor, leading Annual Review and EHCP meetings and building strong relationships with families and external professionals.
- Lead and support Teaching Assistants, ensuring therapeutic strategies and personalised learning plans are consistently applied.
- Promote positive behaviour through proactive, therapeutic and restorative approaches.
- Collaborate with therapists, parents, carers and the multidisciplinary team to achieve the best outcomes for each pupil.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential.
- Strong belief that every child can achieve and high aspirations for all learners.
- Creative, adaptable and able to deliver engaging, personalised learning experiences.
- Excellent relationship‑building skills with pupils, families and colleagues.
- Confidence in supporting pupils with complex learning, communication and emotional needs.
Required skills
- Experience delivering differentiated instruction for diverse SEN and SEMH groups.
- Ability to use assessment tools such as Evidence for Learning.
- Leadership of Teaching Assistants and implementation of therapeutic strategies.
- Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists and external professionals.
What we offer
- Permanent, term‑time only contract (40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday).
- Salary up to £41,000 per annum, plus travel allowance.
