Construction Impacts Officer – Environmental Management

About the role

The City of London is seeking a motivated Construction Impacts Officer to manage environmental impacts of construction across the Square Mile. You will protect residents, businesses and visitors from noise, dust, vibration and other nuisances while supporting responsible project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact for major construction and demolition projects.
• Monitor compliance with the City’s construction impact policies and standards.
• Investigate and resolve complaints related to noise, dust, vibration and related nuisances.
• Review Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs), logistics plans and method statements.
• Conduct site inspections and visits across a range of projects.
• Analyse monitoring data, prepare reports and recommend enforcement actions.
• Provide expert advice to internal and external stakeholders on construction environmental management.

Required profile

• Experience in environmental health, construction management, planning or regulatory services.
• Knowledge of construction‑related impacts such as noise, dust, vibration and air quality.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.
• Ability to interpret legislation, guidance and technical data.
• Organisational skills to manage a varied caseload.

Required skills

• Review of Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs).
• Environmental monitoring data analysis.
• Interpretation of relevant legislation (e.g., Control of Pollution Act 1974, Environmental Protection Act 1990).
