Construction Underwriter

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Construction Underwriter to join our team in Rayleigh. The role is hybrid, with three days a week in the office, and focuses on liability and Contractors' All Risks (CAR) renewals within a dynamic trading environment.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite and administer risks across new business, renewals and mid‑term adjustments within delegated authority limits.
• Produce accurate, compliant documentation throughout the underwriting process.
• Proactively follow up on risks and maintain high‑standard technical decision‑making.
• Develop technical skills, progress underwriting licence and product knowledge.
• Deliver underwriting in line with the Quality Control framework and meet productivity goals.
• Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships.
• Contribute to business development, growth and change initiatives.
• Ensure activities meet Group standards, service standards and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Experience as a Construction Underwriter, preferably with liability and CAR renewals.
• Comprehensive specialist market and product knowledge.
• Solid understanding of the legal and regulatory insurance landscape.
• Confident communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Proactive approach balancing technical accuracy with commercial decision‑making.
• Preferred CII certification.
