Construction Underwriter

About the role

We are seeking experienced Construction Underwriters to join a fast‑growing underwriting team in London. The role involves writing wages and turnover business on a presentation basis, handling a high volume of policies with premiums ranging from £3,000 up to £100,000.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite construction and liability risks, interpreting policy and endorsement wording.
• Calculate premiums within in‑house authority limits and insurer binding agreements.
• Meet and exceed broker service level expectations.
• Identify cover and hazards that affect pricing or terms.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and internal partners.
• Support sales campaigns to acquire profitable business.
• Maintain market awareness and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in construction or liability underwriting.
• Proven ability to work autonomously and achieve new‑business targets.
• Experience interpreting policy wording and modifying endorsements.
• Demonstrated contribution to loss‑ratio control.
• Ability to assess claims and risk‑management impacts on cases.
