About the role
The University Hospital Southampton is seeking a Consultant to join its Acute and General Medicine team. The role involves delivering high‑quality acute care on the Acute Medical Unit, supporting patient flow, and collaborating closely with the Emergency Department.
Key responsibilities
- Provide consultant‑level acute medical care on the Acute Medical Unit between 8 am and 9 pm.
- Lead evening post‑take ward rounds and review emergency admissions.
- Work with the Emergency Department to implement changes that improve patient flow and discharge planning.
- Collaborate with the local health economy to prevent admissions, reduce length of stay, and manage safe discharges.
Required profile
- Full GMC registration and a Certificate of Completion of Training in Acute and General Medicine.
- Proven experience delivering consultant‑level acute care in an NHS teaching hospital.
- Commitment to teaching, research, and service development.
