Consultant Addictions Psychiatrist

About the role

This is an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist with specialist expertise in addiction medicine to lead clinical services in Reading, Berkshire. You will provide high‑quality, evidence‑based care for individuals with substance misuse and co‑occurring mental health needs while acting as the Clinical Lead for the service.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment for patients with substance misuse disorders.
• Develop and oversee personalised treatment plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
• Lead complex addiction cases, including those with co‑occurring mental health conditions.
• Conduct specialist prescribing assessments and manage programmes such as opiate substitution therapy and alcohol detoxification.
• Provide clinical leadership, supervision and support to prescribing staff and other clinicians.
• Promote evidence‑based practice and contribute to service development, quality improvement and clinical governance.
• Liaise with GPs, mental health services, social care, prisons and other partner agencies.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and help develop integrated care pathways.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with professional and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Medical degree with full GMC registration and a licence to practise.
• Consultant Psychiatrist on the GMC Specialist Register, endorsed in Substance Misuse.
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams in addiction psychiatry.
• Strong knowledge of addiction treatments, including opiate substitution and detoxification programmes.
• Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder‑engagement skills.

What we offer

• Rolling contract of 37.5 hours per week (full‑time, Monday‑Friday).
• Pay rate £110 per hour PAYE or £130 per hour umbrella.
