Consultant in Emergency Medicine

About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, high‑calibre Consultant in Emergency Medicine to join one of the UK’s largest and busiest Emergency Departments at University Hospitals Birmingham. The role involves senior clinical leadership on the shop floor, ensuring safe, timely and high‑quality care for a diverse, high‑acuity patient population within a major tertiary and Major Trauma Centre.
Key responsibilities
- Provide a visible senior clinical presence, supervising trainees, advanced practitioners and junior staff.
- Manage patient flow, clinical risk and operational pressures in a high‑volume environment.
- Contribute to the development of Emergency Medicine services, including the new Urgent Treatment Centre.
- Lead quality improvement, audit, research and teaching initiatives within the department.
- Collaborate with nursing, managerial and medical colleagues to deliver first‑class patient care.
Required profile
- Full GMC registration and inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Emergency Medicine, or within six months of achieving CCT.
- Experience in senior emergency medicine roles or a strong potential to develop in this capacity.
- Commitment to weekend work on a 1:8 rota.
- Interest in paediatric emergency medicine is welcomed.
