Consultant Palliative Medicine

About the role

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking an enthusiastic Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join its specialist palliative care team. The role will involve working within an innovative ‘Hub’ model across the three acute University Hospitals and surrounding communities, delivering high‑quality symptom management and care planning for patients in acute, community and hospice settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist palliative care to patients across acute hospitals, community settings and hospice beds.
• Participate in the SPC Advice and Triage line, offering remote advice and arranging in‑person reviews when needed.
• Contribute to a 1:9 on‑call rota covering all NHS Lanarkshire palliative services out of hours.
• Collaborate with Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Nurse Specialists and multidisciplinary team members.
• Support service development, quality improvement, education, research and appraisal activities.

Required profile

• Medical degree with full GMC registration.
• Significant experience in palliative medicine and multidisciplinary team working.
• Commitment to innovative service models and patient‑centred care.
• Willingness to engage in teaching, research or quality‑improvement projects.
