Consulting Engineer - Medical Device Development

About the role

Newton Colmore is partnering with a technology company in Cambridge to find a Consulting Engineer who will act as the technical voice in early‑stage business development for medical devices and healthcare technology. The role is ideal for recent PhD graduates or post‑doctoral researchers who combine scientific credibility with a passion for commercial opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain a network of clients through in‑person meetings and an online presence.
• Collaborate with internal scientists and engineers to create technically credible proposals and pitches.
• Manage and grow a prospective sales pipeline alongside existing accounts.
• Listen to client challenges and develop targeted strategies that turn ideas into marketable products.
• Negotiate contracts and contribute to the evolution of the go‑to‑market strategy.
• Identify emerging opportunities and energise the team to explore new areas.

Required profile

• Recent PhD or post‑doctoral experience in a field relevant or adjacent to medical devices.
• Strong fundamentals in mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, or physics.
• Ability to quickly grasp unfamiliar technical and commercial contexts.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a drive to seek and convert new business opportunities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with willingness to travel for client engagements.
