Contracts & Procurement Lawyer – Locum (Remote)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Contracts & Procurement Lawyer to join a busy local authority legal team on a locum basis. The role is primarily home‑based with occasional visits to the office for meetings and collaboration.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality legal advice on contracts and procurement matters.
• Prepare, negotiate and advise on complex commercial agreements and procurement documentation.
• Manage a varied caseload independently, ensuring efficient progress.
• Advise senior officers and stakeholders on legal risks, governance and regulatory compliance.
• Support projects and service delivery initiatives with practical, commercially‑focused solutions.
• Attend meetings with officers and stakeholders, delivering clear legal guidance.
• Instruct and liaise with external counsel where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate case records, management data and time‑recording.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with significant post‑qualification experience.
• Specialist experience as a Contracts and Procurement Lawyer, preferably within local authority or public sector.
• Strong knowledge of procurement legislation, commercial contracts and governance frameworks.
• Ability to manage complex legal matters with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging senior stakeholders.
