Contracts & Procurement Lawyer (Locum, Remote)

About the role

This is a locum position within a busy local authority legal team, offering a predominantly remote working arrangement. You will provide specialist advice on procurement, commercial contracts and broader public‑sector matters, supporting senior stakeholders on high‑profile projects.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality legal advice on a wide range of contracts and procurement issues.
• Draft, negotiate and review complex commercial agreements and procurement documentation.
• Manage an independent caseload, ensuring efficient progression of matters.
• Advise senior officers and service areas on legal risk, governance and regulatory compliance.
• Support project and service‑delivery initiatives with commercially focused solutions.
• Attend stakeholder meetings and provide clear legal guidance.
• Liaise with external counsel and legal providers as required.
• Maintain accurate case records, management data and time‑keeping.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with significant post‑qualification experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in contracts and procurement law, preferably within local authority or public sector.
• Strong knowledge of procurement legislation, commercial contracts and governance frameworks.
• Ability to manage complex legal matters with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence interacting with senior stakeholders.
