Controls Manager – Economic Crime

About the role

This role sits within Nationwide’s Strategy team and provides first‑line Economic Crime expertise for the Society’s equity investment portfolio. You will ensure that all investment activity complies with the Economic Crime Framework, Minimum Control Standards and regulatory obligations while supporting the growth of strategic and growth equity investments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and apply the Economic Crime Minimum Control Standards across the investment lifecycle.
• Conduct and coordinate Economic Crime risk assessments for new and existing investments.
• Oversee implementation of controls from onboarding through monitoring to exit.
• Collaborate with Strategy, Financial Risk & Controls and first‑ and second‑line Economic Crime teams to evolve a scalable control framework.
• Maintain oversight of risks across the portfolio and ensure robust governance, monitoring and reporting arrangements.
• Review and update control processes to reflect regulatory changes and business needs.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of Economic Crime risk management within a financial services context.
• Experience working with investment portfolios and governance frameworks.
• Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical controls.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Economic Crime Minimum Control Standards.
• Familiarity with investment lifecycle processes.
• Experience in risk assessment and control design.
