Cook in Charge

About the role

The Institute of Technology within Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group is seeking an experienced Cook in Charge to lead its busy kitchen. This full‑time, term‑time position (37 hours per week across 38 weeks) involves preparing and cooking a variety of meals for students, staff and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a diverse menu in a high‑volume catering environment.
• Manage the service and sale of food to students, staff and visitors.
• Order, receive and check stock deliveries, ensuring accurate inventory.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the kitchen.
• Supervise and support a team of catering assistants.

Required profile

• Previous experience cooking in a large‑scale catering setting, preferably within education.
• Understanding of healthy eating guidelines and menu planning.
• Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate.
• NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation and Cooking or equivalent qualification.
