Core Engineering Java Development Lead – FX Tech (SVP)

About the role

Citi is looking for a senior Java engineering leader to drive the design and delivery of high‑performance, event‑driven services for its FX technology platform. This hands‑on position blends deep technical expertise with the ability to influence architecture and mentor a team of engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable, secure Java backend services using Spring.
• Apply Domain‑Driven Design and event‑driven principles to create loosely coupled systems.
• Champion code quality through clean coding, peer reviews and best‑practice standards.
• Modernise legacy platforms while balancing delivery speed with long‑term architectural health.
• Collaborate with traders, quants and other engineers to translate complex business needs into robust solutions.
• Improve developer experience by enhancing build tools, CI/CD pipelines and testing frameworks.
• Support production systems, boosting observability, performance and resilience.

Required profile

• Proven experience building large‑scale Java backend services in a financial services environment.
• Strong understanding of modern backend design patterns, especially DDD and event‑driven architectures.
• Ability to work hands‑on while providing technical leadership to senior engineers.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and a passion for raising engineering standards.
