Corporate Tax Assistant Manager

About the role

Johnston Carmichael is seeking a Corporate Tax Assistant Manager to join its growing tax team. The role will be based flexibly across the firm’s Scottish and Newcastle offices and involves managing a portfolio of corporate clients while supervising Tax Seniors and Assistants.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and supervise corporate and personal tax computations for HMRC submissions, including tax provisions.
• Plan and manage the end‑to‑end tax compliance process, ensuring timely filing of returns.
• Coordinate tax payments, loss relief, capital allowances, group relief and other tax claims.
• Review complex tax returns and computations for accuracy.
• Provide high‑level technical and tax planning advice to clients, working with managers and partners.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of corporation tax and financial reporting requirements.
• Monitor compliance using tax administration software and uphold quality control procedures.
• Liaise with audit and accounting teams to deliver coordinated client service.
• Participate in tax advisory projects and ad‑hoc initiatives as required.

Required profile

• Highly experienced tax professional with relevant corporate tax experience.
• Qualified CA and/or CTA (or equivalent).
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Right to work permanently in the UK without sponsorship.
