Cover Supervisor (SEN) – South Gloucestershire

About the role

This part‑time, school‑hour position supports pupils with special educational needs (SEN) in South Gloucestershire while the regular teacher is absent. You will maintain a calm, structured environment and ensure learning continues effectively.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise classes during short‑term teacher absences, delivering pre‑set work and keeping students on task.
• Plan and deliver differentiated learning activities, adapting approaches to meet individual SEN needs.
• Provide targeted support for pupils with SEN, including physical, speech, language, or medical requirements outlined in care plans.
• Prepare students for tasks through pre‑teaching and supervise practical activities.
• Record progress, carry out structured classroom observations and contribute to support‑plan development.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN in a school or specialist setting.
• Confidence in managing classroom behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies.
• Patience, empathy and a calm, consistent approach.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow lesson plans and work independently.
• Degree‑level qualification; SEND‑related training (e.g., Team Teach, Positive Behaviour Support) is desirable.
