Credit Controller – Customer Ledger Management

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Credit Controller to join a growing business in Colchester. You will own a large customer ledger, ensure timely collection of outstanding balances and help maintain healthy cash flow while managing credit risk.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and manage a substantial customer ledger, ensuring debts are collected promptly.
• Contact customers by phone and email to recover overdue payments professionally.
• Perform credit checks and reviews for new and existing customers, recommending appropriate credit limits.
• Monitor aged debt reports, identify risk, and take corrective action.
• Agree payment plans, resolve account queries and disputes.
• Collaborate with insurers, brokers and internal teams on credit limits, debt recovery and risk management.

Required profile

• Proven experience in credit control, preferably handling large or complex ledgers.
• Commercial awareness with the ability to assess risk and make informed decisions.
• Excellent communication skills for handling difficult conversations and negotiating payment solutions.
• Strong organisational ability, attention to detail and self‑motivation.
• A valid driving licence and access to personal transport.
