Credit Controller

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Credit Controller to manage a large customer ledger for a growing business in Colchester. The role is office‑based, full‑time and focuses on maintaining healthy cash flow while mitigating credit risk.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and manage a substantial customer ledger, ensuring timely collection of debts.
• Contact customers by phone and email to recover outstanding payments professionally.
• Perform credit checks and reviews for new and existing customers, recommending appropriate credit limits.
• Monitor overdue accounts and aged debt reports, identifying risks and taking corrective action.
• Agree payment plans, resolve account queries and disputes, and collaborate with insurers, brokers and internal teams.

Required profile

• Proven experience in credit control, preferably handling larger or complex ledgers.
• Commercial awareness with the ability to assess risk and make informed decisions.
• Excellent communication skills for handling difficult conversations and negotiating payment solutions.
• Strong organisational ability, attention to detail and self‑motivation.
• Valid driving licence and access to personal transport.
