Credit Officer – SME

About the role

This position joins the BCB Credit Underwriting team as a Credit Officer within the SME Credit team, supporting sustainable growth while safeguarding credit quality for clients with revenues between £3m and £50m.

Key responsibilities

• Apply delegated credit authority to sanction SME transactions, including new‑to‑bank lending, facility increases, refinances, restructures, and annual reviews.
• Support the expansion of the Markets proposition for FX to existing and prospective SME clients.
• Collaborate with Area Directors, Relationship Managers, Product Partners and conduct client visits to ensure effective stakeholder management.
• Maintain strong credit quality across the portfolio and ensure compliance with bank and regulatory standards.
• Contribute to credit policy, sector reviews and ad‑hoc analyses, offering constructive challenge and insight.
• Respond to executive and regulatory queries with detailed credit risk analysis.

Required profile

• Strong credit risk experience and solid financial analysis background.
• Experience in Markets, particularly FX lending decisions, is desirable.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, with confidence to challenge the status quo.
• Ability to balance competing demands and deliver within tight timescales.
• Quick learner who can adapt to new challenges.
• Sound judgement, strong decision‑making, attention to detail and collaborative mindset.
