Criminal Defence Solicitor – Experienced Lawyer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Criminal Defence Solicitor to join our specialist Criminal Law team at The Legists in Nottingham. The role involves providing high‑quality, confidential legal advice and representation to private paying clients facing investigations or prosecutions across a wide range of criminal matters.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of criminal matters, including offences investigated by police, CPS, SFO, HMRC, FCA, NCA, RSPCA and other regulators.
• Provide end‑to‑end client service: advice, case preparation, advocacy in police stations and courts, and ongoing support throughout the proceedings.
• Utilise case‑management systems and IT tools to maintain efficient, cost‑effective practice.
• Ensure all work complies with the firm’s professional standards and policies.
• Travel nationally as required to attend client meetings, police stations and court hearings.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with solid experience in criminal defence, preferably handling private paying clients.
• Strong understanding of criminal procedure and regulatory bodies.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex legal options clearly.
• Professional, discreet and client‑focused attitude.

Required skills

• Proficiency in using case‑management software and standard IT applications.
