Criminal Duty Solicitor – Telford

About the role

G2 Legal Limited is expanding its Criminal Defence department in Telford and seeks a Criminal Duty Solicitor. The role is suitable for newly qualified solicitors and those with experience, provided they hold or are working towards Duty Solicitor accreditation.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a full caseload of criminal defence matters from instruction through to conclusion.
• Provide representation at police stations, Magistrates' Courts and Crown Courts.
• Attend clients in custody, advise during cautioned interviews and prepare them for court.
• Prepare trial bundles, review evidence and draft necessary legal documents.
• Conduct advocacy where appropriate and liaise with clients, counsel, courts, police, CPS and other agencies.
• Ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements and maintain accurate case records and billing.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor in England & Wales (NQ+ PQE).
• Duty Solicitor status preferred, or working towards accreditation.
• Solid understanding of criminal law and procedure.
• Experience representing clients at police stations and court hearings.
• Strong advocacy, communication and client‑care abilities.
• Ability to manage a varied caseload independently with excellent organisational skills.
• Full UK driving licence preferred.

Required skills

• Duty Solicitor accreditation (or pursuit of).
• Knowledge of Legal Aid Agency processes.
• Proficiency in criminal case management and court advocacy.
