About the role
Join the Crown Prosecution Service as an entry‑level Crown Prosecutor based in Stoke‑on‑Trent. You will work in the magistrates' court, supporting prosecution teams and gaining extensive exposure to criminal law cases ranging from common assault to drug offences.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and present cases for prosecution in the magistrates' court.
- Advise police and investigators on a wide range of summary‑only and some either‑way offences.
- Decide, based on evidence, whether prosecutions should proceed or be discontinued.
- Explain decisions clearly to magistrates, counsel, victims, witnesses and police.
- Work collaboratively with a multi‑skilled team, including court staff and defence solicitors.
Required profile
- Qualified lawyer (newly qualified or without criminal law experience).
- Commitment to public service and the Crown Prosecution Service values.
- Motivation for personal development and career progression.
- Ability to make effective decisions and communicate clearly.
