Customs Assistant – FMCG (Food Industry)

About the role

We are looking for a Customs Assistant to support our fast‑growing FMCG food distribution business. The role is based in Staines‑upon‑Thames and offers a hybrid working pattern with occasional weekend overtime.

Key responsibilities

• Check and verify paperwork received from international suppliers.
• Compare documentation with internal systems and resolve discrepancies.
• Upload data to government customs portals and submit information to customs agents under tight deadlines.
• Maintain compliance with HMRC regulations and manage queries from HMRC and other UK government departments.
• Ensure customs requirements are met for shipments to and from the EU and the rest of the world.
• Coordinate with customs agents, suppliers, logistics partners and internal teams.
• Contribute to the development of business processes and produce KPI reports.
• Perform ad‑hoc tasks, including occasional weekend work (overtime paid).

Required profile

• Experience in the FMCG food sector (preferred but not mandatory).
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work with large data sets in multiple formats.
• Strong communication skills and ability to engage at all levels.
• Process‑driven mindset with a focus on compliance.
• Problem‑solving attitude and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Polish language skills are an advantage.

Required skills

• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
