Data Centre Engineering Operations – Chief Engineer

About the role

Amazon is looking for a Chief Engineer to lead the operation and maintenance of electrical, mechanical and fire/life‑safety equipment across its Hemel Hempstead data centre. You will be the single point of contact for facility operations, driving reliability, safety and cost efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Train and support the engineering team in troubleshooting and operating electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Design and run site‑specific training exercises for generators, switchgear, UPS, PDUs, AHUs, chillers and related systems.
• Oversee day‑to‑day operation and preventive maintenance of all critical infrastructure.
• Lead large‑scale projects from concept to completion, coordinating with engineering, automation, procurement and finance.
• Develop project milestones, obtain and track quotes, and document outcomes for future roll‑outs.
• Drive innovation and resiliency while reducing operational costs.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing large‑scale data centre or industrial projects.
• Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.
• Strong collaboration skills with cross‑functional teams (engineering, automation, finance).
• Senior‑level expertise in electrical, mechanical and fire safety systems.
