Data Engineer / Data Architect (Hybrid)

About the role

We are seeking a Data Engineer / Data Architect to support the customer support department and project teams of a world‑class defence organisation. The role is hybrid, with 2‑3 days on‑site per week, and offers a compressed four‑day work week option.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain database solutions for storing and retrieving company information.
• Install, configure and test information systems to ensure full functionality.
• Analyse, plan and define the data‑architecture framework, including security, reference data, metadata and master data.
• Migrate data from legacy systems to new platforms.
• Design conceptual and logical data models and flowcharts.
• Improve system performance through testing, troubleshooting and integration of new elements.
• Optimise existing and new database systems and define backup procedures.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to devise data strategies, build models and assess stakeholder needs.
• Provide operational support for Management Information Systems.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Experience gathering and analysing system requirements.
• In‑depth understanding of database structure principles.
• Ability to work with large, long‑standing data models.

What we offer

• Hybrid working – 2‑3 days on‑site, 4‑day week (Mon‑Thu) option.
• Rate of £70 per hour, inside IR35 (umbrella).
• 12‑month initial contract (potentially long‑term).
• 37‑hour week with overtime paid at time‑and‑a‑quarter.
